Rohit Sharma saved India's blushes with a captain's knock of 87 in what initially appeared a below-par total of 229-9 on a tricky surface at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Put into bat, the hosts slumped to 40-3 in the 12th over before Rohit forged a 91-run partnership with KL Rahul (39) to arrest their slide. Suryakumar Yadav contributed a breezy 49 down the order and India's tailenders scored some useful runs towards the end to take them past the 225-mark. England were reduced to 52-5 inside 16 overs in a remarkable batting capitulation and were eventually bundled out for 129 in inside 35 overs with Mohammed Shami claiming 4-22 for India. Shami claimed 5-54 in Dharamsala on Sunday to help the hosts to a four-wicket win and a 5-0 unbeaten record at the tournament. Shami said he would rather be training at the home pitch than taking a break from the game. "Sometimes it happens that when you are busy for 12 months, you get relaxed after going home," said the 33-year-old. Shami replaced Pandya, who injured his left ankle during India's seven-wicket win over Bangladesh last week. Shami said he had not minded sitting out India's first four World Cup matches.

Put into bat, Australia were all out for 276 in exactly 50 overs even though 300 looked within their reach before Shami polished off their tail. Nearly all of Australia's frontline batters got the starts in the match but only David Warner (52) managed a half-century. Australia still looked poised for a bigger total with Josh Inglis (45) and Marcus Stoinis (29) scoring freely. After Adam Zampa removed both the openers and Shreyas Iyer ran himself out in between, Australia looked back in the contest. Rahul made 58 not out, staying put till the end to secure India's victory by hitting Abbott for a four and a six.
